One for the future

I have several oak saplings growing in either flower pots or in the ground.  These have sentimental value as they were gathered from my grandparents garden in England a few years ago.  I love the idea of having a mature oak bonsai tree – perhaps inspired by Harry Tomlinson’s famous award winning oak bonsai on the cover of his well known bonsai book.  Here’s one I look forward to developing perhaps as a smaller bonsai tree.

3 years old. Nice kink in the trunk.

Potential shohin/mame tree if chopped down to these lowest shoots or the next one above.

I’ve put it in the ground to protect it over the winter.  Come the spring, I’ll see if there’s anything promising at root level and let that influence what happens next.
